Viewing Situations
Is It Late?
I woke up early this morning to rush off to Church for the early morning Easter Service. It was exciting rushing off to meet friends and to chat with the person I refer to as my creator and maker. All day I thought about the purpose of my life and how I could so easily just let my life pass me by if I was to sit in the passenger seat and I really dont mind. It’s odd you must think but for someone like me who is forever running, it’s a pleasant thought.I’m at the mercy of the world and therefore love these moments of solitude when I can be with myself and I’m not driven by what the world wants of me. I’m always running to meet someone’s expectation and that stinks. At work, it’s to cope with those around me, at home, it’s the home life and chores, on the roads, it’s the traffic and chaos and the only real place where I can be me is on my own. That’s probably how I took to the camera. I’m not defined by man, time or space. I shoot as I feel led and I walk where my feet take me. The only constraint is time but I love those moments when I have time to myself. To answer the title of this blog, I’m always late for the world but on time for myself. I wonder if its the same for you?
Life Thoughts
I’m not certain whether this is true of you but I constantly have thoughts that flood my day and night… thoughts about people, situations, actions, reactions, causes, effects, and so much more. Am I strange or is this universal? Never asked and so you’ll have to tell me.
This morning, I woke up and had this burning desire to go to the fish market and capture the early morning routines of the vendors there. I want to capture their hard work routines and the bright smiles that are totally in contrast to each other in a corporate work life. The laughs, smiles, joys, sadness, frustrations, difficulties and more that they face. They earn a meager amount but the joy seems so much more than all the smartly dressed up people working in fancy glass offices driving fast cars.
I love to watch people and specially people living in a realm different from me. I live in the corporate jungle where life is not really life. We live like ants, hard at work, but miss the realities of LIFE! Come winter and we certainly have our grains stored but this causes us to be oblivious to the life around us. We read the papers and are shocked to see how people in third world countries live. They have so little, suffer so much, but still have smiles on their faces. Are we missing something here? The more we have the more problems we seem to have.
When is the last time you realized there is life beyond things bought from stores? This brings back that ad campaign by MasterCard which said for anything beyond the joys of life, there is MasterCard. No, life is certainly existent outside of stores. Look around you and enjoy creation. Who created the wood that was chiseled into the bed you slept on, who made the air you breathed all night, who made the plants that give us food, clothes, medicines and more, who made the water that we drink and wash with, who made time, who made all this and WHY? I hope you understand where I’m going with this… no, not directing you simply towards God but hoping to wake up those sleeping senses in you about the living, breathing life around you. Wake up and PLEASE SMELL THE COFFEE!
Happenings at the Geese Home
Baby K is finally here – our lives have changed forever and we’re in luuuuurve with her:) She weighed only 2.76 kgs (6.07 lbs) when she was born but she’s been eating well and resting and has gained weight steadily. She’s now in the 50th percentile weight category and we’re so happy that she is thriving.
Big Bro has been so proud of his baby sister and loves “talking” to her and keeping her entertained. She in turn loves him and it’s beautiful to watch her eyes light up along with a big toothless grin for him when he’s around her. This is going to be one doting little sis:)
We are so blessed to have these two wonderful children.
Blue Skies
Just have a bad hair day Mr. Sun and make the sky gloomy and grey so that we can curl up on the sofa and enjoy some lazy reading and a nice hot cup of tea?
Juggling
What an eventful week we are having to juggle between school, work, meetings, doctor’s appointments, unexpected guests, parties, traffic jams and the usual chaos of every day life in the Emirates.
Doing this…
But for now I guess we will have to be happy with visiting the Dubai Creek which is so beautiful in this light. We just love going and sitting and watching the ‘Dhows’ glide gently in the water. A Dhow is a traditional sailing vessel in the Arab world and many of us who live here in Dubai have taken a ride on a Dhow or ‘Abra’ as it is sometimes known.
